“It’s something that I’ll never be able to pay back” – Lewis Hamilton praised by Mad Dog Jones for uplifting the community around him

Canadian artist Mad Dog Jones was in awe of Lewis Hamilton after designing his helmet once again during the Miami GP weekend this year. Mad Dog Jones had previously collaborated with Hamilton in 2021.

While there is no denying the seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton’s racing craft, the Brit is equally recognized for his distinctive sense of fashion and creativity. As an athlete, Hamilton has emerged as one of the few race car drivers with such impeccable fashion sense and an eye for creativity.

In the past, Hamilton has collaborated with numerous artists, integrating art and fashion into the world of F1. One notable partnership was with Mad Dog Jones, an acclaimed Canadian artist, who recently designed Hamilton’s racing helmet in collaboration with Puma for the Miami GP.

Reflecting on his experience with the Mercedes legend, Mad Dog Jones shared his sentiments with Motorsport.com:

“The main project I worked with him the closest on was when I designed his helmet for Silverstone in 2021, and it [ended up being] his 99th win. Getting to do the helmet for that race was just so cool.”

Mad Dog Jones expressed admiration for Hamilton’s ability to uplift and support those around him. He said:

“Lewis can work with any artist in the world, and he chose little old me. It’s something that I’ll never be able to pay back, and I will always be eternally grateful. That’s what makes him so cool—he finds people and he lifts up the community around him. I want to move through the world like that. Hamilton, along with Ferrari driver and future teammate Charles Leclerc, unveiled their new helmet designs ahead of the 2021 Silverstone GP. Mad Dog Jones’ creation for Hamilton featured a vibrant and intricate design, prominently displaying Maya Angelou’s “Still We Rise” quote on the rear.

The helmet also incorporated symbols that resonated deeply with Lewis Hamilton, including a recycling sign, a Black Lives Matter logo, and the names of all the Silverstone corners encircling the base of the helmet.

The emotional connection between Mad Dog Jones and the British racing icon was demonstrated for the first time via a heartfelt Instagram post by Mad Dog Jones in the lead-up to the 2021 Silverstone GP. Jones stated:

“I still can’t believe this is real. I’m crying as I’m typing this. Getting to design @lewishamilton custom helmet for his home Silverstone GP is truly my wildest dream. Thank you Lewis for trusting me with this opportunity! Your dedication to bringing joy, sustainability and equality into the world is such an inspiration! Lewis Hamilton eventually emerged victorious in his home race in Silverstone. The win was Hamilton’s last at the iconic circuit.
